When you talk about anchor tenants at Floor Almere, you start with De Kinderkliniek. Five floors, nearly 150 staff, and a care offering that has been rated 9.0 by patients for years. Why De Kinderkliniek chose Floor

De Kinderkliniek provides outpatient care, day treatment and psychological support for children aged 0 to 18. When the clinic was looking for new premises, choosing Floor Almere was no coincidence. The location between City Hall and Flevoziekenhuis, a seven-minute walk from the station, makes the building easily accessible for families across Flevoland. But it was about more than just location.

"As a children's clinic, we look for an environment that feels just as warm and approachable as our care," says director Anouk Hilgersom. "Floor offers that: a social building in the heart of Almere, close to Flevoziekenhuis, where kids and parents feel welcome from the front door."

A building that fits healthcare

Healthcare is about trust. About the feeling that you're in good hands. That doesn't start in the treatment room, it starts at the front door. A light and spacious entrance, a friendly reception, a place where children don't immediately feel like they're in an "institution." That's exactly the atmosphere Floor has been deliberately creating for years.

De Kinderkliniek rents floors 1 through 5, approximately 5,450 m². That's substantial. But the fact that an organisation of this scale chooses a building like Floor, rather than a sterile medical tower, says something about the shift in how healthcare organisations think about their premises. It's no longer just about functionality. It's about atmosphere, accessibility, and the wellbeing of both patients and staff.

"Un-bureaucratising" as dna

What makes De Kinderkliniek remarkable isn't just what they do, but how they do it. "Un-bureaucratising is really in our dna," says Hilgersom. "By regulating less, we can do things better." It started with the founders, two paediatricians who were tired of endless waiting for decisions and getting lost in paperwork. They started an independent outpatient clinic outside the hospital, with short lines, fast communication and plenty of personal contact. That principle still applies today, even with nearly 150 staff.

Between 2011 and 2018, a flood of new rules, certifications and quality marks hit the healthcare sector. De Kinderkliniek looked critically at what the minimum requirement was and how to organise it without burdening the organisation. They digitalised early, switched to efficient systems, and gave care providers more focus on the content and communication with parent(s) and child. "Care providers should benefit from it, not the administration."

A remarkable step was abolishing standard time tracking in the back office. "It took a lot of time, nobody looked at those hours, and it added no value. We let it go and said: you're a professional, we trust you to spend your time well." That culture of trust is a foundation of the organisation. Everyone thinks along, from clinic assistant to doctor. "When we introduce something new, we discuss it with everyone involved. We constantly ask: is this really necessary? Can it be simpler?"

Anouk Hilgersom actively participates in tenant meetings, contributes ideas about catering for staff, and is present at community events. It's exactly the kind of involvement Floor wants to encourage.

Ron Bosman, who handles daily operations on behalf of De Kinderkliniek, is also a familiar face in the building. Together with Anouk, they ensure the clinic isn't just housed, but is part of the community.

One of Floor Almere's most distinctive features is its tenant mix. Alongside De Kinderkliniek you'll find Huisartsenpraktijk Afiya, PsyMens ZorgGroep, Status Mentalis, ComeniusGGZ and Sandoz. That's an impressive cluster of care and welfare organisations under one roof.

That concentration isn't just convenient for patients visiting multiple disciplines. It creates an ecosystem. Referrals, collaborations, informal encounters in the lift or at Deli Nomads. A building like Floor makes those kinds of connections possible in a way that a standalone medical park simply can't.

With growing demand for youth healthcare in the Flevoland region, De Kinderkliniek remains an important partner for the city and for Floor.
